Alphornduo Aemmittal

Alpine folk music has exerted a particular fascination since the age of Romanticism and, for many, it has come to epitomize German and even Central European music as a whole. Although this may well have ensured the survival of the Alpine music tradition, it has also made it difficult to maintain a natural and genuinely progressive traditional form. All too often, the music of the Alps is presented as the thigh-slapping stuff of grinning, dirndl-clad maidens and men in lederhosen. Attempts to counter this chliché tend to go to far in the opposite direction, puristically protecting Alpine culture like a museum piece. Even in an area where traditions appear to have survived as strongly as they have in the Alps, one is hard pressed to find authentic – i.e. living and changing – lyrics and melodies.

However, Alphornduo Aemmital flirt with their closeness to nature and devote themselves to the prehistoric instrument of the mountains - the Alpine horns. Their genuine and natural melodies pay homage to the plateau of the Alps while underlining it simultaneously: majestic mountains, blue sky, mountain air and cotton attraction.
